For companies, organizations and administrations:

The digital wallet for Germany and Europe

Communication, banking, travel – much of everyday life already happens on smartphones. Proving identity or sharing documents, however, is still often complicated: entering data, uploading files, or appearing in person. The EUDI Wallet simplifies this. Digital identity and credentials can be stored and presented when needed – online or in person. Only the information required in each situation is shared. This shifts control back to the individual. What is shared, and when, remains transparent – for example, confirming age instead of revealing a full date of birth. The result: simpler, safer interactions and full control over personal data.

More security. More convenience. More digital possibilities.

Working together for a secure digital future

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization (BMDS), the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIND) is leading the development of the German EUDI Wallet. Working with partners including the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Bundesdruckerei GmbH (bdr), Fraunhofer AISEC, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Meiré und Meiré, the team is building a secure, privacy-focused, and user-centered infrastructure. The goal is an interoperable EUDI Wallet ecosystem, developed collaboratively and aligned with European standards.

  • Digital sovereignty

Central functions of digital identity remain a public responsibility. This reduces dependence on large, non-European platforms. Europe is thus strengthening its independence and ability to act in the digital space.

Security and data protection are firmly anchored in the technology right from the start. Only the most necessary data is processed and the protection of privacy is mandatory. Digital documents are legally recognized and backed by the state.

Many participants, one infrastructure: the EUDI Wallet ecosystem

The EUDI Wallet is more than just an app. For it to work in everyday life, it needs the cooperation of many stakeholders – from authorities and companies to digital services. For users, this means: They receive digital documents, such as those from authorities or organizations, store them securely in their wallet and decide for themselves what information they pass on and when. So, for example, documents would no longer need to be uploaded when opening a bank account. Instead, only the information that is actually required is checked directly and electronically.

To make this work, organizations also collaborate closely: Authorities, companies and other institutions issue digital documents and make them available so that they can be used and checked directly by other bodies. This opens up new opportunities for companies and administrations: Processes can be mapped digitally, checks automated and workflows significantly simplified – without media disruptions and without manual intermediate steps. Step by step, a reliable ecosystem is being created that offers benefits for everyone involved: Users retain control over their data, while organizations can make processes more efficient, secure and faster.
