Help shape the development of the EUDI Wallet and share your innovative ideas. The Hackathon is open to everyone, regardless of background or industry. The winning teams will be invited to present their results at the EUDI Wallet Community Event 2026.

Co‑creating Innovation

With the EUDI Wallet Hackathon, we are opening access to the German EUDI Wallet ecosystem to a broad community for the first time. We invite everyone to develop and implement their own innovative ideas - regardless of role, experience, or industry background. Click here to register!

The Hackathon will take place online on 4 and 5 June 2026 and is open to both individuals and teams. After registering, participants will receive detailed information about the hackathon schedule as well as access to the communication channels used for exchange and collaboration throughout the event. The hackathon itself is conducted entirely online, so no travel is required.

Participants will, for the first time, have the opportunity to work not only with Person Identification Data (PID) but also with Electronic Attestations of Attributes (EAAs). Prior experience with digital credentials and extensive preparation are not required to take part. To support participants, we highlight service providers already active in the EUDI Wallet ecosystem; an overview is available as the final question in the “Sandbox” section of the FAQs.

Five Challenges – One Shared Goal

During the two hackathon days, you will work in interdisciplinary teams on concrete applications, integrations, or publicly accessible software components. The goal is to develop and test innovative approaches within the EUDI Wallet ecosystem across one or more challenge tracks - whether in the form of a clearly articulated concept, a functional prototype, or a technical contribution. The following five challenge tracks form the core of the hackathon:

  • Public Sector: How can the EUDI Wallet enable seamless interactions between citizens and public authorities? From change of address to document issuance – this track focuses on solutions for fully digital public services.
  • Private Sector: How can the EUDI Wallet help businesses reduce complexity and build trust when securely verifying identities and credentials, preventing fraud, and delivering a seamless customer experience?
  • Builders Challenge: Digital identity unlocks its full potential especially in physical interactions. This track seeks innovative solutions that connect EUDI Wallet credentials with hardware or IoT environments.
  • Creative Use Cases: How can the EUDI Wallet enable creative applications beyond traditional identity verification? Ideas from gaming, education, healthcare, or travel are highly welcome.
  • Developer Tools: Widespread adoption of the Wallet depends on easy-to-use developer tools. Open source solutions, reusability, and high-quality documentation should support the smooth integration of Wallet functionalities into everyday development workflows.

Up to three members from each winning team across all challenge tracks will be invited to present their results live at the EUDI Wallet Community Event on 25 June 2026 at Café Moskau in Berlin. The audience will select the overall winning team on site. The event will be held in English.
