On 25 June 2026, EUDI ON 2026 brought together the EUDI Wallet community at Cafe Moskau in Berlin and online. More than 400 representatives from the international digital identity community across government, business, public administration, academia, and civil society took the opportunity to connect and exchange on the next steps towards a European ecosystem for digital identities.

The event was opened by Federal Minister for Digital Affairs, Dr. Karsten Wildberger. In his speech, Wildberger emphasized the strategic importance of the project as one of the key digital initiatives for Germany and Europe. The EUDI Wallet represents digital sovereignty, greater independence from non-European actors, and a trustworthy digital ecosystem. The use cases emerging in the sandbox already demonstrate today the potential for innovative business models.
In his keynote, Rafael Laguna de la Vera, Director of SPRIND, underscored the unique dimension of the project, which has no precedent in this form. Trust lies at its core, both in the technology itself and in the people developing and driving it forward. In this way, the EUDI Wallet will lay the foundation for new applications, some of which cannot yet be fully anticipated.
In Focus: the EUDI Wallet ecosystem
A key focus of EUDI ON was the interaction between the many stakeholders shaping the EUDI Wallet ecosystem. The wallet delivers its full value when public authorities, companies, wallet providers, credential issuers, and relying parties work together.
The event clearly demonstrated the potential of the EUDI Wallet ecosystem and above all, the space it creates for exchange and collaboration. In expert sessions and discussions, participants explored key questions around the further development of the ecosystem, from interoperable infrastructures across Europe to the requirements of different stakeholders and how long-term trust in digital credentials can be established. Working together with exhibitors and partners, interactive formats made it tangible on site what the project is currently working on and well beyond the wallet app itself. The interplay of various components, from the EUDI Hub and verification app to the issuance of digital credentials, was brought to life through concrete use cases, illustrating how interoperability works in practice.
The Sandbox: Testing use cases under real conditions
The sandbox of the national EUDI Wallet project also attracted significant interest. Within this testing environment, companies and public authorities are already exploring how the EUDI Wallet can be integrated into their existing processes and digital services. EUDI ON provided both existing and potential sandbox partners with the opportunity to share experiences, explore current use cases, and initiate new collaborations. The solutions presented by 12 exhibitors demonstrated how digital identities can be applied securely and in a user-friendly way.

Hackathon: Thinking outside the box
A special highlight was the presentation of the winning teams of the first EUDI Wallet Hackathon. At the beginning of June, interdisciplinary teams had worked across different challenge tracks on new applications, integrations, and technical solutions for the EUDI Wallet ecosystem.
The results showcased the innovation potential within the community: from new concepts to functional prototypes, numerous ideas emerged that provide valuable impulses for further developing the ecosystem. At the same time, the hackathon highlighted the truly international nature of the collaboration. Participants worked across 28 time zones, with live contributions, among others, from Dubai and Sri Lanka during EUDI ON. This vividly illustrates how globally connected the EUDI Wallet community already is today.

The national EUDI Wallet project team looks back on a successful EUDI ON. The event created a space for exchange and collaboration, bringing together diverse perspectives and making the ecosystem tangible.
