The EUDI Wallet sandbox – test use cases. Develop further. Scale.

As the first official test environment, the sandbox enables the practical testing of use cases related to the state EUDI Wallet. It reflects the future production environment and provides a framework for companies, public administrations and organizations to develop and validate integrations at an early stage.

Test environment for companies, organizations and authorities

  • Validate real-world use cases and user scenarios in a production-like environment.

  • Organizations can test use cases for digital identity and verifiable credentials.

  • Test data is initially used for the tests in the sandbox.

  • Participant feedback drives the continued development of the EUDI Wallet.

  • This lays the foundation for a successful launch of the EUDI Wallet.

Entry into the ecosystem – the “Ecosystem Knowledge Center”

The Ecosystem Knowledge Center is the central hub for information about the EUDI Wallet ecosystem in Germany. It brings together key resources, guidance, and support for onboarding, integration, and participation.

State EUDI Wallet in administration

In many administrative areas, documents such as birth certificates, registration certificates and other documents are still checked manually. The EUDI Wallet streamlines these processes through standardized digital documents. Administrations receive verified information automatically – traceable, secure and without media discontinuity.

The EUDI Wallet thus creates a modern standard for digital documents in the public sector:

  • Check faster

Automated authentication replaces the manual inspection of documents and shortens processing times.

  • Make more confident decisions

Forgery-proof, cryptographically secured documents increase security and reduce sources of error.

  • Work without media discontinuity

Standardized, verified documents are integrated directly into existing processes.

The result is an administration that works in a service-oriented manner, shortens throughput times and makes digitalization tangible in everyday life.

EUDI Wallet administrative connection – for federal, state, and local authorities

In future, authorities will interact with users’ EUDI Wallets in various usage scenarios. These require certain technical prerequisites and enable step-by-step integration into existing IT structures.

How does the connection work for public administrations?

For administrations to be able to use the EUDI Wallet, their systems must be technically connected. Within “Testing the administrative connection of the EUDI Wallet” the Federal Ministry has been testing different integration paths together with the City of Dresden and the Free State of Saxony since September 2025. The first applications are the Dresden Pass and the Saxon volunteer card, which should be available from mid-2026. Further applications are planned; from 2027, the EUDI Wallet will be used throughout the city administration. The aim is to develop practical and transferable solutions for federal, state and local authorities.

There are two ways for federal, state and local authorities to connect:

  • Direct connection to the EUDI Wallet ecosystem: For administrations that want to connect their systems directly to the EUDI Wallet.
  • Connection via the BundID: Enables authorities to implement all three usage scenarios based on the connection to the BundID.

Both variants are suitable for meeting the requirements of the amended eIDAS Regulation.
