News

From concept to reality: with the EUDI Wallet Sandbox, BMDS and SPRIND are providing a secure environment for real‑world testing. Identification with Person Identification Data (PID) can now be tested.

Join the Sandbox!

The Sandbox provides companies and public authorities with a secure environment to test the provision and retrieval of identity data under realistic conditions before the national EUDI Wallet goes live. It was established by the Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) together with the Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND) to support the rollout of the Wallet in Germany. This allows organizations to identify technical hurdles early on and to ensure a seamless integration of their specific use cases into the EUDI Wallet ecosystem. Even after the national EUDI Wallet goes live, completing a test run in the Sandbox will remain a requirement for Relying Parties and Issuers in order to become part of the EUDI Wallet ecosystem.

Paving the way for a growing ecosystem

In the Sandbox, companies, public authorities, and organizations test the Wallet functions. At the start, the Sandbox enables testing of use cases with Personal Identification Data (PID). The insights gained flow continuously into the further development of the core architecture and pave the way for a growing ecosystem.
